Our Story

Anji Mountain was founded in 2003 by Darryl Gold, a man whose entrepreneurial spirit couldn’t be contained any longer. At 55 years young and after decades of working for The Man, he went out on a limb and created a business for the *second time in his life with little more than a bamboo rug and a dream. This began an obsession with sourcing and innovating the finest area rugs, chair mats, poufs and other home furnishings made from natural fibers and recycled materials. Style, quality, sustainability and affordability—these are the tenets that underlie our success and guide us into the future.

We have forged personal and lasting relationships with our factories in India and China and visit often to develop new product, review manufacturing details, extend our appreciation to the artisans who make our products and enjoy delicious meals with our friends.

Although our team hails from all over the world, St. Louis is our home. We love this historic and quirky city and if you ever get the chance to visit, you really should. Great food, amazing architecture, a thriving arts and music scene, beautiful parks and a very supportive and collaborative business community. And some really nice people!

We are proud and excited to lead this second generation family business. We love our customers and we love doing what we do. Thank you for being a part of our story.

*Darryl’s first business was a pet store named Pet Village located in Chesterfield, MO circa 1971-1972. Not a great idea.
